Simon Latteyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Latteyer, was born, Feb. 15, 1852, in Munchaurech, Germany, and passed away at his home, May 1st, at 11:30 a.m. after a lingering illness of six months. He was a patient sufferer and never gave up hopes of getting better. Everything possible was done to give him comfort and relief. He was confined to his bed just three days before his death. He reached the age of 82 years, 2 months and 15 days.
He came to America, Oct. 18, 1869, at the age of 18 years landing at Baltimore, Md. From there he came to Chicago, later residing in Dubuque where he was employed for a short time. After his short stay in Dubuque he came to the vicinity of Littleport where he worked for several years and then was united in marriage to Libby Pupke. To this union ten children were born. His wife and four children have preceded him in death.
The family lived on various farms in Cox Creek township, later moving to Motor where he has resided for the last forty years.
Mr. Latteyer was a hard-working man always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. The deceased was baptized and confirmed in Germany.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters: Seymour Latteyer of Guttenberg; John and Helmuth at home; Mrs. Anna Shepard of Wood, S.D.; Mrs. John Enders and Mrs. Guy Coonfare, both of Guttenberg.
