Clayton County Register, Thur., 03 May 1934.
On Sunday, April 22, this vicinity was shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. C. W. Morley which occurred at her home five miles south of Garber at the age of 65 years.
Ermina May Holtzman was born May 7th, 1868, in Mallory township, Clayton county, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jesse and Helen Holtzman, nee Penhollow.
Mrs. Morley spent her entire life in this vicinity with the exception of a few years in Nebraska. Here she attended school and developed those fine traits of character that made her life beautiful and attractive. She and her husband were pioneers of this country and saw many hardships that went with early frontier life. She was a good wife to her husband, a loving mother to her children, a kind neighbor and a law abiding citizen. In the year 1897 she joined the United Brethern church at Fairview and her hope of Christ sustained her throughout her life.
She was united in marriage to Cephas W. Morley at Osterdock, Iowa, December 22, 1889. To this union 11 children were born, one dying in infancy. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, six sons, Elmer, Harry and Frank of Garber; Ross and Earl of Greeley; and Gilbert at home; four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Brookshire of Greeley, Mrs. Ruby Combs of Colesburg, Mrs. Jessie Smock and Buelah Rizer of Edgewood; 22 grandchildren; five brothers, Orman, Guy and Frank of Fayette, Bert of Oelwein and Kenneth of Arlington; one sister, Mrs. Effie Pattison of Fayette, besides many other relatives and friends who mourn because a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and kind neighbor has gone from us. May she rest in peace.
