Morris Grant Talley died last Friday evening, April 6, at his home near Elkader. He had been afflicted with severe bronchial trouble since last summer. Recently he had shown some improvement, and had been making regular daily trips to town for treatment. A hemorrhage on Friday evening suddenly brought his life to a close.
He was born on May 18, 1864, in Stevenstown, Wis. His parents, John Way Talley and Rebecca Kirby Talley had migrated to Wisconsin from Wilmington, Del. He had four brothers and one sister, all of whom have preceded him in death.
Om May 18, 1887, he was married at LaCrosse, Wis., to Lena Nelson, who died in Elkader on March 1, 1915. On November 28, 1916, he married Almira Schulte. One daughter, Effie, died on May 16, 1911. He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Vernie (Mrs. E. Oscar Gunderson) of Ladysmith, Wis., Ada (Mrs. Elmer C. Bandow) of Elkader; two sons, Atwell Talley of Des Moines and Ray Talley of Sioux City; and Eight grandchildren.
For eleven years he was engaged in the mercantile business in LaCrosse. He came to Elkader in 1__1 to enter business with F. D. Bayless. Later he conducted this business independently. For four years between 1904 and 1908 he served on the school board. In his later years he took up farming, and in 1919 he bought the farm where he has lived during the past fifteen years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Modern Woodmen, and until recently belonged to the Knights of Pythias.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, April 9, at 1:30 at the E. C. Bandow residence, and at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church with Rev. C. T. Brewster officiating. The committal service at the grave in the East Side cemetery was conducted by the Masons with Joe Cords in charge.
