Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 Apr. 1934.

GUTTENBERG: Mrs. Emma Jenkins, nee Kords, one of Guttenberg's life-long residents and worthy mothers, passed away at her home here Saturday evening, at the age of 72 years, nine months and 24 days. She had been in poor health for some time previous to her death.

Mrs. Jenkins was born in Guttenberg, Iowa, on June 13, 1861, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kords, deceased, pioneer settlers of this community. She received her education in the Guttenberg public schools. On November 1, 1881, she was married to John Rau, who preceded her in death in May, 1892. In the month of November, 1899, she was again married to H. G. Jenkins, who also preceded her in death in May, 1914. During her illness she was a patient sufferer. All that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest, was done for her to save her life, but all failed when the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond on last Saturday evening

To do acts of kindness for her family and friends was her greatest pleasure in life at all times, many times making great sacrifices, which won for her many friends. To know her was to love and respect her. She was a very ambitious woman during her entire life. Her death is deeply mourned by one son, Albert Rau, of Guttenberg; one granddaughter, Alene Ray, of Guttenberg; four nephews, William Dent, of Aberdeen, S.D.; Willis Kords, of Alta Vista; Veryl Minger, of Millville; and Roland Kords, of Mediapolis; two nieces, Mrs. Eli Myers, of Oelwein, and Mrs. Gladys Nordstrom of Mediapolis, and numerous other relatives and friends who will all sadly miss this good and true woman. Mrs. Jenkins is a charter member of the local Royal Neighbors lodge.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Dale D. Welch of Dubuque, at the home of the deceased in Guttenberg, Tuesday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
