Guttenberg: John Dehn, 72 years old and a long-time resident of Clayton county, died suddenly of heart trouble Friday afternoon, while at work in a rock quarry on his farm near Garnavillo. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, with burial in the Garnavillo cemetery. The funeral was largely attended. Mr. Dehn is survived by his widow, several children and numerous other relatives and friends.

John Andrew Henry Dehn was born in Clayton county near Garnavillo, Dec. 28, 1857, and died Friday, March 16, at 4:30 p.m. near the place of his birth. He was 76 years, two months and 18 days old. Mr. Dehn died of heart disease while assisting on the farm of his son, Elmer. He had resided near Garnavillo and Clayton all his life except for two years during which his parents lived in Winona, Minn.
Mr. Dehn attended public and German schools at Garnavillo and Bayless Business college at Dubuque.
Jan. 19, 1887, he married Flora Haltmeyer. Eight children were born to them, two of whom, Laura and Clara, died during childhood. He is survived by his wife who resides at Clayton; Elmer of Clayton; Mrs. Charles Bush of Dubuque; Esther Dehn of New York City; Mrs. Henry Ramsay of Sparta, Wis.; Lawrence Dehn of Waterloo, and Weber Dehn who lives at home.
He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. William Theadore and Mrs. Adolph Peterson of Lincoln, Neb. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death, Mary, Lydia, and William.
Mr. Dehn was in the brick and lime business with his father until he was married, when he started farming. In 1923 he moved to Clayton, and until his death was in charge of the Mauser Lumber company. He was justice of the peace for 35 years.
