GUTTENBERG: Mrs. Barbara Miller, nee Torrey, passed away at her home in Mallory Township last Thursday afternoon at the age of 46 years, 11 months and 14 days. She had been in poor health for some time previous to her death. Mrs. Miller was born on a farm in Millville township, Clayton county, Iowa, April 1, 1887, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Torrey, deceased, pioneer residents of Clayton county. Her entire ambitious and true Christian life was spent in this county. On June 26, 1912, she was married to George Miller, who preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1927. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm in Mallory township. Mrs. Miller was a woman of a pleasing personality. To do acts of kindness for her family and friends was her greatest pleasure in life at all times. To know her was to like and respect her. Her untimely death is deeply mourned by one son, Delbert, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Schrunk, of Millville township, and Mrs. Leonard Miller, of Mallory township; one brother, Fred Torrey, of Millville; one half-sister, Mrs. Nettie Wathen, of Morrill, Nebr.; one half-brother, Earl Torrey, of Graham, and many other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss this good and true woman. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Nothdurft at the M.E. church at Colesburg, on Sunday afternoon, with burial in the Brown cemetery there. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Rebecah lodge, members of which attended the funeral in a body and conducted funeral services at the grave. The funeral was well attended, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Mrs. Miller was a niece of J. S. and Philip Herboldsheimer, of Guttenberg.
