Funeral services of Cyrus Jefferson occurred at the Gill funeral chapel Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, local M.E. pastor. Two duets were sung by Dr. R. W. Dutton and G. J. Gill, with Miss Eva Preston playing the accompaniment. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Cyrus Jefferson was born at Logansport, Ind., Dec. 15, 1849, and died at his home near Strawberry Point, Iowa, after a brief illness, Sunday morning. He came with his parents from West Union to Strawberry Point, when about 11 years of age, and has since made this place his home. In early life he was married to Miss Alma Ward, to which union one child was born, Mrs. Lottie Dewey, of Arlington. He was again married April 11, 1892, to Miss Ellen Jane Nigh, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born: Charles Jefferson living on the home place near Strawberry Point; Rufus Jefferson, of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Mary Thomas, of Manchester. His wife preceded him in death in September, 1919. Those surviving are two daughters, two sons, and ten grandchildren.
