Clayton County Register, 08 Feb. 1934. Volga News columns.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Presbyterian church here for John C. Burrington. Rev. E. W. Fikse officiated at the services. Immediately following the ceremony the body was taken to Manchester, where it was placed in a receiving vault.

The casket was borne by C. E. Lovett, Ed Smith, J. J. Conboy, Fred Keeling, James Little and James Jellings.

John Chauncey Burrington was born in Fulton county, Illinois, on March 23, 1850, and passed away at his home in Volga City, Iowa, January 31, 1934.

At about the age of four he moved with his parents to Manchester, Iowa, where he made his living until 1886. He then moved to Volga City, where he made his home until death beckoned him to leave his earthly abode.

At the age of 19 Mr. Burrington learned the harness making trade at Delhi, Iowa, and practiced the trade in Fort Wayne, Ind., for two years. He was one of the oldest harness makers in the state, having followed the trade for the past 65 years.

On Jan. 5, 1888, he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Eveleth of Volga City. To this union two daughters were born; Mrs. Clifford Jennings of Volga City and Mrs. Fred Wenger of Emmetsburg, Ia.

Mr. Burrington, having been in business here for the past 48 years, was highly esteemed for his honesty in business dealings. He will be greatly missed, not only in the home but by his many friends and associates. In his younger days he was a great sportsman and a lover of the outdoors.

Although a victim of a chronic disease during his last years, Mr. Burrington quietly and willingly bore his burden until death summoned him, quietly passing out in the presence of relatives.

Those left to mourn are his widow, two daughters, previously named, three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. S. A. Stedman of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were as follows: Mrs. Victor Dow and son of Greeley; Ed and Mattie Livingood of Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Squires, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Becktell, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wilkinson of Arlington; Miss Bessie Seedorf, Mrs. Laura Squires, Mr and Mrs. Bert Burrington of Lamont.
