Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Jan. 1934. Local Column.
Frances J. Kaltenbach died Sunday, December 31st, at the Eberhart home here, of heart trouble after an illness of about one years duration.
Miss Kaltenbach was born November 6, 1863, here in Elkader, the daughter of Englebert and Josephine (Sedlee) Kaltenbach and thus at the time of her death had reached the age of 70 years, one month and fifteen days.
She lived her entire life here in Elkader; for 21 years following the trade of jeweler. She never married but devoted her life, first to her parents, then to her business and in later years, while her health permitted, to her friends, whom she numbered by the score.
After the death of her parents she continued to live alone in the building which had been her home and business place. Here she continued to live and visit with her friends until about three months ago when she accepted the invitation of her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Eberhart, to spend the winter with them and in their home she passed away
She was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic church of this place and at various times held offices in both social and church organizations. Funeral services were held in her church Tuesday forenoon, January 2, and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Very Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
Casketbearers were: D. J. Barton, Norbert Niemeyer, Fred Seyberts, D. J. Raftis, T. J. Donahue and E. A. Burlingame.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kendel, Boscobel, the former a cousin, were the only relatives who were able to attend the funeral though a host of friends paid her final tribute Tuesday.
