Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Oct. 1905. Strawberry Point column.

The death of Samuel Gratke, Sr., occurred at his home Saturday afternoon. He had been suffering for a number of years with asthma and last Thursday evening cholera morbus set in and he grew worse until death came as a relief to him. He lived to the good old age of eighty-six. Mr. Gratke was a kind neighbor and respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church, Monday, Rev. Graf preaching a very appropriate sermon, after which the remains were laid to rest in the local cemetery to wait until resurrection morn.
