Last Thursday news reached us that Grandma Wegner had died. She was one of the early settlers here. Her husband died a good many years ago. Grandma Wegner was always known as a good and kind mother and a friend of all who knew her. She leaves to mourn one son, Charles. The interment took place in the Littleport Union cemetery, Rev. Hertel officiating. May she rest in peace.

Mrs. Augusta C. Wegner died on April 21st, 1905, at the advanced age of 83 years. She long had been a pioneer resident at their home in Elk twp., and was one of those good and kind old souls that will sadly be missed in the community. Her husband preceded her several years ago and she leaves only one son Charles, who will be lonely without mother. The funeral was held Sunday and was very large, attesting the high esteem in which she was held. Rev. Hertel officiated at the funeral and the remains were laid to rest in the Littleport cemetery.

Augusta Caroline Wegner was born in Germany, September 21, 1822, and was married to William Wegner in 1851 and immigrated to America the same year to the state of Missouri, where they lived for two years. They then came to Clayton County, Iowa, where they bought a farm in Elk township, and where her husband died in 1889. She died Friday morning, April 21, at half past one o'clock at her home in Elk township. She leaves one son, Charles Wegner, to mourn the loss of a good mother and companion. She was a kind neighbor and a friend to all. The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased by Rev. Hertel, of Elkport, and was witnessed on Easter Sunday at 2 o'clock by the friends and neighbors of the surrounding country. Rev. Hertel preached a good sermon and the remains were followed by a large crowd of sorrowing friends to the Union Cemetery at Littleport, where Rev. Hertel and the Brothers of Jo Morris' Lodge I.O.O.F., of which her son, Charles Wegner, is a member, conducted the services at the grave.
