Harriet Annett Holbert, oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas S. Lang, was born in Avon, Lorain county, Ohio, Feb. 23rd, 1848. When seven years of age she came with her parents to Iowa and here grew to womanhood and most of her life was spent in this and adjoining counties. On July 4th, 1872, she was united in marriage to Warren F. Holbert, whose loss she was called to mourn Jan. 10th, 1899, after twenty-seven years of happy life together. In 1887 she, with the family, came to Strawberry Point, where she has since resided. To this union three children were given - Harry B., who died Jan. 7th, 1898; Maud E., and Joseph L., who with her mother, Mrs. N. S. Lang, two sisters and six brothers remain to mourn her loss. For eighteen years she had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church and for many years a teacher in the Sunday school and was always active in the work of the church, where her loss will be greatly felt. Though for some months her health had not been good it was a shock to all when the end came and she sank peacefully to rest, April 19th, 1905, at the age of fifty-seven years, one month and twenty-six days. Funeral services occurred at the M.E. church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. O. C. DePuy, assisted by Rev. Hestwood. Many beautiful flowers covered the casket. The Eastern Star of which she was a member, attended in a body. The pall bearers were J. C. Flenniken, A. C. Gibbs, B. B. Davis, W. O. Appleby, L. W. Preston and Chas. Newberry.
