Elkader Register, Thur., 26 Jan. 1905.
One of the saddest deaths that we have had to chronicle, occurred about 5 o'clock last Monday evening, when Mrs. P. J. Mahr passed away after a short illness. A little over a week ago she was attacked by la grippe, which resulted in pneumonia.
Kate Ivory, the daughter of James Ivory, was born in Cox Creek township in 1866. In the year 1888 she was united in marriage with P. J. Mahr. They resided in Cox Creek for a time and a few years ago moved to Elkader.
The departed is survived by the husband and eight small children, the oldest about thirteen years old and the youngest about eight months, also the aged father, three sisters, Alice at the Cox Creek home, Mrs. Jacob Tinker of Cox Creek, and Mrs. John Henry of Sperry twp., and two brothers, D. J. and W. J. Ivory.
Deceased was a member of St. Joseph's Court of Lady Foresters and of Fern Leaf Camp of Royal Neighbors, having a policy of insurance in each.
Mrs. Mahr was a devoted member of her church, a kind neighbor, an affectionate wife and mother and an active worker in her Court of Foresters.
Our entire community feels the sad affliction that has come to this family, and if human sympathy could have prevailed it might have passed them by, yet, we must believe that He doeth all things for the best.
The funeral services were held yesterday morning at St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating.
