Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Sept. 1904.
At about noon on Friday, Sept. 16, 1904, death came to Henry Mallory Clift as a great relief. For the past twelve years Mr. Clift has suffered with locomotor ataxia, and for the past few months has been a sufferer, anxious for the end to come.
Mr. Clift was born at Mystic, Conn., Jan. 4th, 1854. Early in the 80's he came to Elkader, and in 1887 was united in marriage with Miss Nettie Thompson. To them were born two children, Frances and Chester. Frances died about four years ago.
He is survived by the wife and son Chester, two brothers, John at Tacoma, and Walter at North Yakima, Wash., and one sister, Miss Mary at Port Chester, N.Y.
Mr. Clift was a genial friend and neighbor, and with all his great affliction was an active man in business. No one could be more devoted to his family, and to the last he endeavored to plan for their comfort. While but few knew him intimately he was highly respected by all.
After a short service at the house Saturday morning, the remains of Mr. Clift and of the daughter were taken to Mystic, Conn., for interment.
