Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Sept. 1904.

John Hagensick died Tuesday, Sept. 20th, 1904, at Independence, Iowa. He was born April 27th, 1839, in Bavaria, Germany, and at the age of twelve years came to this country with his parents, Christopher ad Eva Hagensick. His parents settled in Garnavillo twp., where they lived to a good old age and passed away. About 1871 Mr. Hagensick Married Miss Minnie Bedoe and to them were born ten children, six daughters and four sons. Of these all survive with the wife and mother except one son.

After his marriage Mr. Hagensick purchased his home farm in Garnavillo twp., where they remained until 1884. In that year he bought a farm in Boardman township where the family have since resided. Deceased was a hard working man, respected by all. About two years ago his health began to fail and he was taken to the hospital at Independence, but he has continued to fail until the end came.

Deceased was a brother of J. L., of McGregor and J. C., of Elkader.

The funeral was held this afternoon at the Congregational church, Revs. Braun and Baxter officiating.

John Hagensick, of Boardman township, Clayton county, Iowa, died Sept. 20, 1904, at Independence hospital, where he has been for nearly 2 years, receiving treatment for Diabetes, from which he had been suffering for the past few years, until Tuesday morning when the Death Angle came quietly and the life peacefully passed away. He was born April 27, 1839, in Germany, therefore at the time of his death he was 65 years, 4 mos. and 24 days of age. At the age of 12 years he came to America with his parents and landed in Read township, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 25 he journeyed to California, spending 7 years there and then returning to Read township. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmina Patow, of Read township, at which place they lived for 18 years, and in 1884 moved to Boardman township, where he lived with his family until the past 2 years. Four sons and 7 daughters were the fruits of the union. One son and one daughter preceded him to the other world. The rest with the wife of the departed are: William, married and living in Boardman township; Mrs. Alma Samp, of Sperry township; Mrs. Sophie Doty, of Highland; Anna and Louisa, of Elkader; Wilhelmina, Amanda, John and Glen at home. Besides the bereaved wife and children he leaves to mourn 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 grandchildren. The brothers are: J. L., of McGregor, and J. C. of Elkader. The sister is Mrs. Henry Schumacher, of Garnavillo, and many kindred and friends deeply mourn the loss of the departed. Peace to his immortal soul is the wish of all.
