B. F. Scovel was born at Lewiston, Fulton county, Ill., January 3, 1830, and died Sept. 10th, 1904, aged 74 years, 8 months and 7 days. He first came to Iowa in 1874 and with the exception of two periods has since been a resident of Clayton county. On January 1st, 1855, he was united in marriage to Nancy Lamphier of Cox Creek, and to this union were born three children, Charles H. and Martha A. Peet of this place, and Norman W. Scovel of Allison, Iowa, all of whom, together with the five grandchildren were at his beside during his last hours.
Deceased was a blacksmith by trade but for the past 33 years had followed the occupation of farming. He was converted May 4th, 1886, since which time has been a faithful Christian in the church of God, and his last words were, "It is all right, it is all right with the Lord." The funeral was held at his home and was conducted by F. A. Newville, of Haysville, Iowa.
He was noted for his strict integrity and was loved and respected by all who knew him. - Edgewood Journal.
