Elkader Register, Thur., 26 May 1904. Strawberry Point column.
Last Wednesday evening death relieved Mrs. G. W. Smith of her suffering. She had not been confined to her bed but three days with pneumonia but her health has been failing for a number of years. Olive Marshall was united in marriage to G. W. Smith at Greeley, Nov. 11th, 1897. To this union one babe was born, but it being too frail for this world was taken away. Mrs. Smith's father died in 1883 and her mother died April 17th, 1897. Under the preaching of Rev. J. R. Johnson, Mrs. Smith was converted to the Christian faith and she died in the belief that this life is but the entrance way into a higher and better life with Christ. In disposition she was quiet and friendly, making friends wherever she went, and many sorrowing friends can truly testify to her loving and amiable nature. Her relatives lose one who was ever the favorite of the circle and her husband a devoted, tender and loving wife. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The afflicted husband and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bereavement. Funeral services occurred at the home east of town Friday, Rev. O. C. DePuy officiating. She was laid to rest beside the baby in our cemetery.
