Elkader Register, Thur., 19 May 1904. Volga City Views column.

At her home in Arlington occurred the death of Mrs. C. B. Roe, May 4th, 1904, aged 78 years, 6 months and 15 days. She was born in Wayne county, Ind., Oct. 19th, 1825.

When nine years old she moved, with her parents, to Michigan, where she spent her girlhood days.

On March 6th, 1845, she was united in marriage to C. B. Roe, who is left to finish the rest of earth without his companion to whom all these years he had been a devoted husband and lover as well.

Nine children were theirs two dying in infancy, and Mrs. Louise Nace, their oldest daughter, March 31st, 1896.

The sorrowing children are: George Roe, of Strawberry Point; Charles, of Arlington; Mrs. Hill, of Arlington; Mrs. Pardee, of Volga; Mrs. Massey, of Algona; Mrs. Nace, of Hawkeye. Also eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, mourn her loss.

Coming to Clayton county and settling on their farm near Strawberry Point in 1855, they resided there for forty-three years and thus are known far and wide in this part of Iowa for their kindness and the hospitable home whom so many have visited, and the noble acts of good, she as a friend and neighbor, done for those in need.

Their children, all in homes of their own, they moved to Arlington six years ago where in peace and quietness this aged couple finished the allotted time together. She is mourned by all, but her life and character are left - a blessing and the precious hope of seeing her on the other side.

The funeral was held at Arlington and largely attended. Thirty of her Sunday school class laid flowers on the casket as they gave their last look at their friend and teacher. The body was laid away in the cemetery at Strawberry Point.
