Mary Mettie Helms was born in Lima, Fayette county, Iowa, April 28th, 1886, and died at the home of her parents, in Volga, Clayton county, Iowa, April 27th, 1904, at the age of eighteen years, lacking one day. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Helms, who live to mourn their loss. In her last sickness of nearly five weeks she saw her need of a Savior and gave evidence of her trust in Jesus. She had a great desire to go to her grandfather, who had gone before, and had visions of him awaiting her. She suffered much but endured all very patiently without a murmur. Toward the end she became very weak and passed away without a struggle. Trusting that all is well with her who is gone, the bereaved ones are commended to God who is able to comfort sorrowing hearts. The remains were laid away in the cemetery at Lima.
