Wednesday, January 20th, occurred the death of Minnie Hochhaus, wife of Jacob Schanwarth, at the age of 42 years. The deceased was stricken with paralysis about nine weeks ago. Funeral was held at the Catholic church Saturday forenoon, Rev. Raedler officiating. Our heartfelt sympathy is with the grief stricken husband.

---- ----

Elkader Register, Thur., 28 Jan. 1904.

At her home near Garnavillo on Jan. 20th, 1904, Mrs. Jacob Scharworth passed away after patiently suffering nearly two months from a paralytic stroke, in spite of all that could be done.

Wilhelmina Hockhaus was born near Communia in March, 1860. She was united in marriage with Jacob Scharworth at Elkader in 1895. Besides the bereaved husband she leaves an aged mother, Otilla Hockhaus, five brothers, Richard and Reinhold, at Alma, Kans., Frank and George near Elkader, and Frederick near Littleport, and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Bauer, at Elkader, Mrs. H. Brust and Mrs. C. Peick near Communia. The funeral was held Saturday at Garnavillo, Rev. Father Raedler officiating in the presence of a large gathering of friends and neighbors who came to attest their love and esteem for a true wife and a good neighbor.

Weep not husband, mother, sisters, brothers,
For her cares on earth are o'er.
She'll be waiting there to greet you
On that bright eternal shore.
