Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Jan. 1904.
Friday night about midnight as William McGlynn was returning from town to his home at the West Yards, when near bridge one, he saw passenger train No. 8 coming from the west and left the track until it passed, but stepping back on the track again, he failed to notice the switch engine following some distance away. His foot caught and he slipped and was run over, cutting off both legs. He lived but a few minutes after the accident. He was brought to the city hall where he was prepared for burial. Saturday the remains were taken to his home at the West Yards. He was an old settler and had not been in very good heath the past year, and the accident of Friday night ended the life of one who was well known. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Richard McAndrew, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Farmer, of North McGregor, to whom are extended the sympathy of all.
Funeral services were held Monday morning from St. Mary's church at McGregor, Rev. Father O'Donnell officiating.
