Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Apr. 1902. Garnavillo column.
Mrs. Maria Sigg, wife of George Sigg deceased, was summoned to the beyond, April 4th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. August Maurer in Beloit, Wis. Mrs. Sigg, nee Duhringer, was born Aug. 11, 1822, in Lohbeck, Tyrol, of the Austra Hungarian Monarchy. In 1852 she was united in marriage to George Sigg of Braeyer, Wurtemberg, and together came to this county in 1853 and later in 1855 moved to Garnavillo.
After 46 years of married life the home was deprived of its kind and loving husband and father and since then the subject of this sketch spent her remaining days with her children George of Charles City and Marie of Beloit, Wis.
On the 29th of March she was stricken with paralysis. The most careful attention and nursing was given her but she lapsed into unconsciousness and continued to sink, peacefully breathing her last on the evening of April 4th. The remains were brought to this place on Monday and the burial services, conducted by Rev. Sommerlad, took place the following afternoon. Interment on the family lot in the new cemetery.
The deceased was well known and respected in this community. She was a kind neighbor and a true friend and will long be remembered for her many good deeds. She was an active worker and bore life's trials without a murmur, patient and with implicit faith in a blissful hereafter.
She is survived by her five children, viz: Joe residing at Lincoln, Neb., George, at Charles City, Ia., Mrs. August Maurer and Mrs. Bertha Brumm at Beloit, Wis., and Mrs. Anna Burmeister at Adair, Iowa.
