Elkader Register, Thur., 30 Oct. 1879.
It again becomes our sad duty to chronicle the final dissolution of another of Elkader's respected citizens; Ole Gunderson, died Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock, of consumption, aged 29 years. Ole Gunderson was born in Norway, 1850, and in 1866, with his parents emigrated to the United States, settling in Marion township. For a number of years he was employed on a farm, but his inclinations being for mercantile pursuits, he soon left the farm, and commenced clerking, being employed at Clermont, Luana and Elgin. While at the latter place, he formed a co-partnership with Mr. Hanson, and six years ago, they came to Elkader and commenced the general merchandise business. They continued to do business until the fall of 1878, when Ole's failing health obliged him to retire, and the business was discontinued. Since then his health has been rapidly failing, until death overtook him, Sunday evening.
Ole was married to his wife, who survives him, in 1877, and by her has one child, a daughter, who at an early age is left an orphan. In the death of Ole Gunderson, Elkader has lost a good citizen, an upright and honest merchant, and his wife a kind and loving husband. She has the sympathy of all in her deep affliction.
