Elkader Register, Thur., 23 Oct. 1879.
Mr. Patrick Scully, an old resident of Sperry township, died very suddenly Thursday, Oct. 16th, while at work grubbing. Some time ago Mr. Scully became insane, and was taken to the hospital at Independence, but last spring he was brought home by Sheriff Benton, having been pronounced cured by the hospital authorities. Since his return his health has been failing, and he was subject to appopletic fits, of which he had two. Last Thursday he went into the field to work, apparently in his usual health, but was shortly afterward found dead. Coroner Penfield and Dr. McLean were called and being satisfied that he died of a fit, it was decided not to hold an inquest.
