—Geo. Herterick [sic], who died recently in Clayton County, left an estate estimated at $92,000.

The funeral of George Herterich on Saturday last was largely attended by old friends and neighbors. The services were held in the M.E. church. President Bookwaiter, of Western College, Toledo, Ia., conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Humphrey, of the U.B. church of Wagner, and Revs. Stevens and Fisk, of Elkader.

We understand that the estate of the late Geo. Herterich, amounts to something about $92,000, which his will directs shall be disposed of as follows:
After providing for the suitable marking of his last resting place, one third of the estate goes to his wife, $25000 to his daughter Sophia, $10000 each to his two grand children and the remainder, after paying all debts, to be divided equally among his wife and children.

Notes: He was h/o Caroline Kohlascheck Herterich. Burial is in Eastside cemetery, Elkader

Elkader Register, Fri., 17 Apr. 1896

DIED - At his residence in Elkader, on Thursday about 11 a.m., George Herterich, after an illness extending over many months. He was born in Savern, province of Alsac_, France, March 9th, 1813, and in 1849 came to America. He came to New Orleans where he worked as a baker, and then went to St. Louis where he worked upon the wharves.

He came to Clayton County in 1851 and bought the well known Hedrick farm in Marion twp. Here he married his surviving wife in 1853. In 1871 Mr. H. moved to Elkader where he has since resided. A wife and two children by a former wife, Franz and Sophia Hedrick survive him. Deceased from his early habit of hard work and economy had gained a competence, and he was for a number of years one of the directors of the First National Bank. He now has finished the race. The funeral will be held at the M.E. church at this place on Saturday next at 10 o'clock a.m.
