Elkader Register, Thur., 06 Mar. 1879.

An accident which resulted in the death of Edmund Aulwes, son of Frederick Aulwes, Jr., occurred near Guttenberg on the Garnavillo road, Feb. 24th. School was out and he was going home, where he was overtaken by a colt, running at large with other horses, which, when near him, kicked him in the head, fracturing the skull and smashing in the brain. The teacher, who witnessed the affair, ran to his assistance, and carried him home. Medical aid was summoned, but could do nothing for him.
