Elkader Register, Thur., 03 Aug. 1899.

Daniel Maher died at his home in this place Monday morning suddenly from heart trouble with which he had been affected for the past few years. He had been around as usual on Sunday and Monday morning, and while returning to the house from the barn fell and by the time he was taken into the house his spirit had died. He was born in Dubuque June 8th, 1857, was united in marriage with Ella Molumby April 15, 1884, to whom were born five children, two of whom have preceded the father in death. For a few years they resided on a farm in Sperry twp., but about five years ago they moved to Elkader. Mr. Maher was a kind and affectionate husband and father, a pleasant neighbor and has borne his sufferings patiently. He has now been released and is at rest. The funeral was held yesterday at St. Joseph church.
