Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Aug. 1899.
After a protracted illness, on Aug. 4th, Mrs. Martin Klingman, of Highland, was released from her suffering and departed this life. Laura Johnson was born near Drommon, Norway, Jan. 8th, 1851, and came to the United States in 1871 locating at Elkader. She was united in marriage with Martin Klingman, at Highland, Dec. 25th, 1873, there she has resided until her death. Four children, Alice, Charles, Albert, Nora and Willard, her husband, two grandchildren, four sisters and one brother remain to mourn her sad departure. Her father, mother and two sisters have preceded her to the other shore.
The funeral was held Sunday last at the Union church at Illyria and was largely attended by the many sorrowing friends of the family. Rev. F. L. Fisk, of Elkader, preached the funeral sermon, assisted by Rev. Smith.
It is sad to see our loved one go, but when we know that only by their departure they escape intense suffering apparently incurable, what can we do but be thankful that they are at rest. Thankful that they are safely within the veil. Our sympathy goes out to our friends who mourn.
(Note: Though the article says she is survived by four children, apparently five are named.)
