Elkader Register, Thur., 25 May 1899. Volga City Views column.

Huldah Wheeler Whipple was born in New Hampshire, Sept. 18th, 1831, and was the daughter of Harvey and Martha Whipple. She was the next to youngest of eleven children of whom she had been the only surviving member for some years. She was married to Stephen D. Rowell in 1859 and moved to this state over 42 years ago. Three children blessed their union, Millard, who died in his tenth year, Mrs. Ella Wandell, of Arlington, and Harvey Willis, of this city.

Thirty-seven years ago she was converted and joined the United Brethern church, but on coming to Volga, together with her husband, united with the M.E. church, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was a faithful friend, a kind neighbor, and indulgent mother and a true Christian. Always cheerful and helpful, patient in sickness and sorrow.

About four weeks ago she was taken with pneumonia and after intense suffering quietly passed away May 18, 1899, at the age of 67 years and 8 month's. She leaves six grandchildren, and many friends to mourn her death.

The funeral service occurred Sunday morning at the M.E. church, Rev. Shiffer officiating and was attended by many sympathizing friends.
