Elkader Register, Thur., 01 June 1899. Volga City Views column.
Marion Muir was born in Meurkirk, Ayrshire county, Scotland, June 13, 1826. In February. 1846,, she was married to Jas. McCrae in Old Maunkland, Leonardsheir, Scotland.
Six children blessed this union, three boys and one girl of which have preceded her to the grave. A son, of Riceville, Ia., and a daughter, of Lansing, Minn., together with her aged husband, survive to mourn her departure.
She, with her husband, came to this country in 1850 and settled near Pittsburg where they resided about seven years when they removed to Highland township, Clayton county.
She joined the Presbyterian church before she was married and remained a consistent member until her death which occurred on May 24, 1899, aged 72 years, 9 months and eleven days.
Mrs. McCrae was a kind and loving wife and mother, a consistent Christian and one of the best of friends and neighbors. She had been a great, but patient sufferer for several years past, but through it all she always had a kind and loving word for all, and the name of "Grandma" McCrae will be treasured in the memory of her host of friends.
The funeral was held from the house on Thursday, May 25, 1899. The sermon was preached from Ps. 23-1: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Interment in the Volga cemetery.
