Elkader Register, Thur., 23 Feb. 1899.

On Saturday morning, Feb. 18th, 1899, after an illness of some two weeks with the Grippe, Mrs. Thos. Casey passed away to the great unknown shore at her home in Cox Creek township. Bridget Branen was born in County Meath, Ireland, in the year 1813. She was married to Thos. Casey in Ireland, on Aug. 8th, 1846. On November 10th, 1846, they landed in New York City, where they lived a few months and then proceeded to a farm near Rochester. Here they resided seven years. In 1853 they came to Clayton county and settled on the farm near Osborne. Mr. Casey died in 1884. Three children were born to them, but Bernard, the oldest, alone survives with his family.

The funeral was held Monday last from St. Joseph's church at Elkader, Rev. Father Rowe, of Strawberry Point, officiating.
