Elkader Register, 12 Jan. 1899. Giard column.

Sunday morning at 3:30 occurred the death of Charles Spencer, at his home in Giard, after a lingering illness of that dreaded disease consumption. The funeral services took place at the Giard M.E. church, Rev. Schlung officiating. Charlie was loved by all who knew him, and will be missed by many friends.
