The remains of Geo. J. Opperman of Marquette, Mich., arrived Saturday evening and the funeral services occurred Sunday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fredericke Feulner. The Rev. T. J. Elwik, pastor of the M. E. church conducted the services at the home and the A.F. & A.M. had charge of the services at the grave. George J. Opperman was born at Galena, Ill., June 9, 1862. Soon afterwards his parents came to Iowa and settled at St. Sebald, where he grew to manhood and worked at several places at Strawberry Point. Later he went to Helena, Mont., Where he was instructor in the agriculture college, then to Seattle, Wash. He went to Alaska where he remained eleven years and endured the hardships of a real pioneer. He returned to Seattle, where he remained until about a year ago, when he came here intending to spend the rest of his days. Owing to the climate he was unable to stay here and started back to Seattle but on his way he was stricken with his old malady and was forced to stop at Marquette, Mich., where he passed away last Friday morning. He leaves two brothers and four sisters: John Opperman of Dubuque; Henry Opperman of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Minnie Geissler of Carthage, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Feulner of this place; Mrs. Lena Hughes of Bloomington, Ill.; and Mrs. Amelia Humphries of Marquette, Mich.
