Clayton County Register, Thur., 11 Nov. 1929.

Our community was deeply shocked and sadly grieved on being informed of the sudden death of a lifelong and highly esteemed citizen of Clayton county, Fred Meisner, who passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 6, 1929, at six o'clock in the morning, having attained the age of 66 years, four months and eleven days.

Deceased, Fred John Meisner, son of Edward and Wilhelmina Meisner, was born June 25, 1863, in Highland Twp., Clayton County, Iowa. When he was three years of age the family moved on a farm on the West Union road, four miles west of Elkader, known by all as the old Meisner farm. There he spent his childhood and school days, and practically all of his life.

On November 11, 1895, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Meyer, of Boardman Twp. The young couple took up housekeeping on the Meisner farm, assisting the parents with the various duties of farm life. This union was blessed with two children, Velma and Clarence.

Mr. Meisner was known as a hard-working man. finding pleasure in work, which he would faithfully perform, not as a burden, but as a privilege. Even of late years, when rheumatism caused him considerable pain and inconvenience, he did not wish to give up the work he loved so much. And when he finally rented out the farm, he was still eager to assist with the work until about four weeks ago, when the old malady, rheumatism, together with an attack of pleurisy, compelled him to take a rest and seek medical aid. With untiring efforts his faithful wife would find ways and means to give comfort and relief; but the condition of the patient was not considered serious at all; therefore his passing away, caused by a sudden heart attack, came unexpectedly and unlooked for. It almost seems impossible to realize the fact that he is taken from us.

The departure of a good husband is mourned by his faithful wife and life's companion for the last 34 years. It also means the loss of a loving father to the daughter, Velma, who is engaged in the teaching profession in Chicago, Ill., and to the son, Clarence, employed by the State Highway commission in Clayton County. He also leaves one brother, Edward Meisner, one sister, Mrs. Clara Pahlas, both of Elkader, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Meisner was a home-loving man, a model friend and neighbor, (several words blurred) with his fellowmen, his word being good as gold. These characteristics, together with his ever pleasant disposition, made him the friend of everybody. To know Fred Meisner, meant to esteem, to like and to love him; it was all so natural. The passing of a good man is keenly felt by the members and the Pastor of the Evangelical church, of which he was a faithful member, and by the entire community.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, Nov. 8, 1929, at the late home and in the Evangelical church, with the Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
