The tolling of the Lutheran bells Friday morning announced the passing of Charles Gamm, who had been ailing for some time. Mr. Gamm was a man beloved by all and was ever ready to help those in trouble. He has gone from us but his kind deeds will never be forgotten.
Charles Leonhardt Gamm was born July 3, 1862, at Helden, Weinsberg, Winttenberg, Germany. He came to America in 1887 and was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Louisa Fink, March 28, 1889. To this union was born six children, one son, Otto, dying in infancy. The remaining are: Mrs. Anna Brockens and Mrs. Lena Nace of Strawberry Point; Carl Gamm and Mrs. Emma Isermann of Waverly; and Mrs. Lydia Merkel of Waukegan, Ill. Besides his sorrowing wife and five children he is survived by ten grandchildren, one brother, Lewis Gamm of this place and one sister, Mrs. Kate Boekenheuer of Arlington, and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran church conducted by his pastor, Rev. Jahr. Interment took place in the local cemetery.
