Clayton County Register, Thur., 18 Apr. 1929.

David Horn died at his home here in Elkader last Sunday morning, April 13, at the age of eighty-one years and seventeen days.

Mr. Horn had taken ill the day after Christmas with an attack of influenza and doubts were entertained for his recovery at that time. During this illness he was taken care of in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Wolf and when his condition became serious his brother, Henry, was called from Ritzville, Wash.

He rallied, however, and returned to his own home. Here he had a relapse several weeks ago and death finally came last Sunday at about seven forty-five in the morning.

Since the death of his mother "Dave" as he was known to his friends, lived alone in the old home. He mingled with none and cared for the friendship of but few. He was born in Pennsylvania, March 27, 1848, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Horn. In the year 1856, when he was seven years of age, he came with his parents to Elkader and this has been his home ever since. He received his education in the local schools and practically all the years of his life followed farming, taking care of a large garden here in town and farming a piece of land on the West Union road just outside the town limits.

Mr. Horn is survived by one brother, Henry, of Ritzville, Wash., who has been with him since his first attack. Dave always enjoyed good health and seldom knew of a sick day previous to this attack and in his regular and methodical way will be missed in the neighborhood in which he has so long lived.

Funeral services were held last Tuesday morning in St. Joseph's church, of which he was a member and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
