Christian Brockman, one of the early settlers of Clayton County, passed away at the home of his grandson, Carl R. Ehrhardt, in Boardman Twp. Friday, August 21st, 1925, at one o'clock in the afternoon.
Deceased was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, December16th, 1838. At the age of fourteen he came with his father to this country. After a short stay in Toledo, Ohio, they came west and settled in Cox Creek Twp., Clayton County, Iowa, where he lived for about nine years.
On November 2nd, 1857, he was united in marriage with Marie Meyer of Cox Creek Twp. Nine children were born to them, of which six preceded their father in death. Thus he leaves three children: Mrs. Ed Reardon, of Elkader, Iowa, and Fred and Christian on the home farm in Farmersburg Twp. He also leaves eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives. His wife having preceded him in death on March 8th, 1908.
For the past three years he had made his home with the Carl R. Ehrhardt family, where he received the best of care and comfort in his declining years. He reached the age of 86 years, 8 months and 4 days.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Carl R. Ehrhardt home and in the Evangelical church at Elkader; Rev. C. H. Franke conducting the same. Interment was made in the Clayton Center Cemetery.
