Elkader Register, Thur., 02 July 1925.

Mrs. Mary Finnegan, who has been a patient sufferer from a general breakdown, due to old age for the past seven months, passed peacefully at her home in this city at 12:25 a.m. on Saturday morning last, aged 73 years and 1 day. All the children being present when the end came.

Mary Boyle (daughter of John and Bridget Boyle) was born in the city of Charlestown, S.C., June 25th, 1852, and was the eldest of a family of nine children, all of whom have preceded her in death with the exception of one sister.

At the age of two years she came with her parents to St. Louis, where they lived for a time, moving from there to a farm near Communia, where girlhood days were spent and where she obtained such education as the rural schools afforded at that time, and it might be said that she was one of Clayton County's early settlers as she lived in the County continuously for 68 years.

After her marriage her life was spent on farms in Read and Volga townships, until the spring of 1912 when the family moved to this city, which has been her home since and where she has enjoyed a well earned rest in her declining years, her husband Joseph Finnegan preceded her in death on January 5th, 1914.

She was the mother of seven children all of whom survive her Viz. J. J., N. J., Margaret, Mary and Mrs. Charles Wagner, of Elkader, Mrs. P. C. Coffey, of Dubuque, and Mrs. F. H. Dahlstrom, of Mason City, a sister (Mrs. James O'Connor, of Dubuque,) also six grandchildren survive her.

She was a life-long and fervent member of the Catholic Church and died fortified and comforted by its last rites.

Her funeral was held on Monday from the residence, to St. Joseph's Church, Rev. J. P. Taken officiating, burial in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery.

May she rest in peace.
