Elkader Register, Thur., 21 May 1925.
Allen Roeder 26 years of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Roeder of this place, was accidently killed yesterday forenoon near Galena, Illinois, when a charge of dynamite was accidently exploded where the new Grant Highway is under construction a short distance west of Galena.
The accident is said to have occurred when Roeder, in charge of dynamiting for the Loeb-Wercke Construction company of Oelwein, was drilling to place a charge of dynamite. The drill is said to have struck a forgotten charge causing it to explode. He was directly over the exploding charge and was hurled a considerable distance. He died while being taken to a hospital in Dubuque.
The body arrived here this forenoon and was taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Roeder, from where funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in the East Side cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, three brothers and two sisters, other relatives and many friends.
Our sympathy is with the sorrowing family.
