Strother Hansel, son of John and Mary Hansel, was born in Virginia, November 19th, 1844, and died on his farm in Mallory township May 6th, 1918, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 17 days.

When he was seven years of age, his parents emigrated to Iowa, settling on the same farm which he owned at the time of his death. Here he grew to manhood, receiving a common school education.

When about thirty years of age he became a studious reader of the bible, and after reading through the entire bible carefully he commenced searching for a church who's doctrine was in accord with his belief. Learning from a friend that his belief of the bible was that of Dunkard, and there being an organization of that church at Waterloo, Iowa, he drove through with a team. Finding it to be the church of his choice, he united with them, and since then until the time of his death he has preached the gospel, and a true gospel it has been. He never asked compensation, but preached for the sole benefit of his fellowman.

July 4th, 1866, he was married to Sophrona Wolf. To this union was born seven children, one boy, John Joseph, dying in infancy; David E., Otto, Mrs. Mary Smith, Mrs. Edith Harbaugh, of Garber; Mrs. Nevada Bowman of Toledo, Iowa and Mrs. Bertie Gull, of Bowsman, Canada.

Besides his loving wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure, thirty-two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Uncle Tod, as he was familiarly called, was taken suddenly ill and all that loving hands could do was done for him but all to no avail.

He was a kind and true husband, father and friend, and was loved by all who knew him, being a man who was always ready with heart and hand to assist those in need, and the many acts he did and the good advice he gave will be cherished by all who knew him.
