"There is just one step between death and me". This true word has been literally fulfilled on Louis Mandelkow. What a shock we received when the sad news of the sudden death of Mr. Mandelkow became known. Neighbors found him dead in his bed Wednesday evening April 15th about 9 o'clock. He passed away quite unexpectedly. His death probably was due to heart trouble. According to the judgement of the physician the sad event of his departure took place nearly twenty-four hours before his lifeless body was found by neighbors. Our departed brother's cradle stood in Farmersburg township. He saw this earthly world's light March 27, 1874. In our Zions Lutheran Church he received the Sacrament of the Holy baptism. In the same church our departed brother personally and publicly confessed his faith at the hour of his confirmation. He was and remained his whole life time unmarried. He lived as a bachelor. His physical health was o.k. until he was attacked by the Flu in 1913. Since that year the deceased brother felt not so good. His general physical condition grew worse and worse. He so often complained to neighbors of weariness and weakness. God gave our departed brother a rich, sunny mind. God endowed him an always golden humor. By this gift and Divine Providence our departed brother has conquered the hearts of so many friends. He leaves to mourn his two sorrowing sisters Mrs. Wm. Drallmeier and Mrs. William Knuth, and his brother August Mandelkow of Montana. His parents, four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. He reached the age of only 51 years and 18 days. Rev. Em. Wuestenberg spoke words of comfort and edification in the mourning house, in the church and at the grave. Interment was in the old cemetery of the Zions Lutheran Church at Clayton Center Saturday April 18th. May our departed brother rest in peace. May he see the light of Eternity.
