Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Jan. 1925.
John Friend passed away at his home at Des Moines yesterday forenoon at the age of about 73 years, being in ill health for the past several months.
The Friend family were residents of Elkader for many years; about seven years ago the family moved to Des Moines, where they have since resided.
Mr. Friend was born in 1852. His parents came to Clayton county in 1854 locating at Clayton. For many years Mr. Friend carried the mail daily from Elkader to Clayton. Later he engaged in the livery dray business here.
His faithful wife preceded him in death on September 24, 1914, also his son Otto who died about ten years ago.
He is survived by three sons, Harry, Frank and Ray, two daughters Mayme and Josephine.
The remains will arrive here tomorrow (Friday) forenoon from Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock at the Congregational church, with burial in the East Side cemetery.
