Henry William Taake, after an illness of some two weeks died at his residence in Read twp., on Thursday, Oct. 21st, 1897. He was born August 23rd, 1829, in Ledde, Westphalia, Germany, where he spent his youthful days and learned the milling trade. Nov. 11th, 1853, he married Wilhelmine Stratemeyer, who bore him fourteen children, of whom eight survive. With his wife, oldest daughter and father-in-law he came to America in Oct. 1857. They tarried in Pennsylvania three months then came to Clayton county settling on a farm in Read twp., where he has since resided.
Besides the wife, three daughters, Mrs. H. W. Schwencke, Mrs. Theo. Glawe and Mrs. Chas. Kelpein; five sons, Fritz, William, Henry, George and August; three brothers and four step-sisters, Mrs. George Wolf, Mrs. E. L. Bosch, Mrs. F. G. Leibrock and Mrs. Chas. Englehardt, and other friends are left to mourn his loss.
The funeral was held at Clayton Center on Sunday last and was most largely attended by neighbors and friends, the German singers, of Elkader, being in attendance. Rev. F. W. Seifert officiated.
