Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 29 Oct. 1897. Additional Local column.
Friday, Oct. 22nd, 1897, at his home in Giard twp., another old settler passed away. Mr. Jacob Klotzbach was born April 29, 1831, in Mansbach, Hesse Cassell, Germany. With his parents he came to America in 1844, locating in Ohio. In 1854 he came to this county which has since been his home. Aug. 23d, 1844, he was united by marriage with Louisa Eastman, who bore him ten children, three of whom have preceded him to the grave. He leaves to mourn his loss the wife, five sons and two daughters, four brothers and two sisters. He was an honest, upright man, a good citizen and a kind husband and parent, one who will be missed in the family circle and the community. Thus as the days pass the old settlers are called to their long home.
