Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 29 Oct. 1897. Additional Locals column.
Herbert Wellington Russell was born in Farmersburg, Clayton Co., Iowa, Sept. 17, 1874, and died in Ogden, Iowa, Oct. 5th, 1897. He had been a patient sufferer with that fatal disease, tuberculosis, for the past year. In the early spring he went south hoping to receive benefit, but found as the days passed by, he was constantly growing weaker. He returned home in June, since which time he has been rapidly declining, being unable to leave his bed for the past seven weeks. With a perfect trust in God he peacefully passed away to the beautiful mansions of the blest, to meet his little children, Clyde and Bessie, who preceded him during the past year. He leaves a wife, father, mother and four sisters to mourn the loss of a loving husband, son and brother. He was the only son of J. W. & F. E. Russell, and his death was the first to enter the parental home. But the sorrowing wife, parents and sisters have the consolation that "all is well" with Herbert. For - "He lives ! In all the past he lives." Nor to the last of seeing him again will we despair.
