Sunday, April 4th, 1897, at 4:30 p.m., after an extended illness, Mrs. Thomas Barton passed away. Julia Mahr was born in Lancaster, Penn., May 10th, 1851. She with her parents came to Dubuque in 1857, and resided in Dubuque county for three years, then removed to Sperry twp., where she was united in marriage to Thomas Baton on May 18, 1871. She has been thee mother of eight children, the oldest and youngest of whom were called home before her. Two daughters, Mrs. James Corkery and Miss Addie; four sons, Dannie, Raymond, Tommie and Hugh, with her husband and one brother, Dan Mahr, of Elkader, and three sisters are left to mourn a king and loving mother, wife and sister. She was friendly with all and none knew her but to love and respect her. The funeral occurred Wednesday, at 10 o'clock a.m., at the Catholic church in Cox Creek, of which she was a most devout member. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends and neighbors.
