Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 09 Apr. 1897. Volga City Views column.
On Sunday, April 4, 1897, at 2:30 p.m., occurred the death of Benjamin Jellings. Mr. Jellings was born in England in 1831, and emigrated to America in 1848, living at Lockport, N.Y., seven years, and in 1855 came to Sperry twp., which has been his home since. He was married to Elizabeth Lowe in August 1857. To them were born eight children, six of whom survive, four sons, James, George, David and Willie, and two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Ewing and Miss Clara. Mr. Jellings united with the M.E. church Sept. 1_th (looks like 16 or 18), 189_ (looks like 1893 or 1895), and was a good Christian member. He had been a great sufferer for several years but seemed patient through it all. Friends and neighbors mourn with the family in this, their great irretrievable loss. The funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the M.E. church.
