Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 05 Mar. 1897. From an article detailing the deaths of four Fleming siblings.

James Ulysses Fleming, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Fleming, died Feb. 21st, 1897, of diptheria, at eight o'clock, three hours after little Mamie. He was born Jan. 23rd, 1881, and was aged 16 years, and 2_ days. Ulysses was a boy that was trusty, good hearted and ever willing to do any thing there was for him to do and was a great help to his parents.

As soon as the sickness appeared a doctor was called and all that three good doctors and kind friends could do was done, but all in vain, Death must claim them.

The two oldest left bright evidence of their acceptance of the blessed Saviour. They told their parents not to fret and worry for them for they were ready and willing to go if the Master called them. Death has caused an aching void in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fleming. The joy that waked with their presence is now veiled in grief and sorrow, the ties that bound them to their loved ones here were strong indeed, but they could not hold their gentle spirits from answering the summons of the angels beckoning from a more congenial shore for their companionship. May the faith of these parents seek their children among the ever living and the forever joyful, where sorrow and sighing has passed away and though weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning.
