Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 22 Jan. 1897. Clayton column.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bothmer, of this place, mourn the loss of their only daughter, whose death occurred at Lansing, where Mrs. Bothmer, accompanied by her two children, was visiting with her parents, when the little one was suddenly attacked by this dread disease spinal meningitis and in spite of all that loving hearts and hands could do, the angel of death claimed her for his own. Marguerite Augusta Bothmer was born Aug. 22nd, 1896, and on Friday morning Jan. 15, 1897, she quietly slipped away from the home she had made so bright, to join the angel chorus. The remains were brought to Clayton Saturday and were laid away on Monday morning, Rev. T. A. Kellet conducted the services at the M.E. church. The grief stricken parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
