Elkader Register, Friday morning, 22 Jan. 1897. Guttenberg column.
On Thursday morning last, January 14th, occurred the death of Adam Goetz, at the advanced age of 87 years, after a prolonged illness of severe suffering. He is survived by four sons, all being present at his funeral, viz; Chas, of Sioux City; William, of Waukon; George, of Postville; and Edward, of Guttenberg. Two of his grandchildren, Tillie and Walter, children of Edward, were present. Religious services were held at the home of the deceased, conducted by Rev. E. Fish, pastor of the M.E. church, after which Guttenberg Lodge No. 126, I.O.O.F. took charge and conducted the services at the cemetery. Two very appropriate songs were sung by Mesdames Lawrey and Duffin, Miss Emma Seippel and Messrs. Smart and Harvey. The weather was very disagreeable, but a large number of people attended the funeral.
